Color Grading

Or, as I like to call it in this image, un-zombie-fying myself.

While composition and getting the settings right in-camera is VERY important, I'd have to say my favorite part of photography is seeing the transformation a photo can undergo from there.

This photo, while compositionally pleasing, lacked in color. Additionally, my eyes have very little color and light going into them. This was able to be fixed in-post with surprising results

Additionally, my awkward hand placement was able to be swapped with a placement from a different photo so that my hand looks more natural and non-distracting.

Dramatic Snow Transformation

The color grading and snow overlay change this from a dismal cold day into a winter wonderland.

While I love the end result, the starting image wasn't one anyone would normally pick. His eyes are closed and the background has muddy dark green colors.

While not every photo in a photo shoot needs a transformation such as this one, adding snow and turning it into a proper winter scene was a great opportunity to test out new

Removing items

Wouldn't life just be a whole lot easier if we could just clone unwanted things out? Fix chipped paint, clean up a mess, remove unwanted people.

In this image, I was challenging myself to shoot in a less-conventional location. Industrial-looking areas can be neat, but ultimately, too many random objects creating lines in the image detracts from the subject.

Cinematic Edit

The magenta tones in this image are brightened up to a cyan, giving it an almost cinematic feel

I wanted this photo to look almost as if it were from a sci-fi movie. Cool tones and dead, staring eyes that I'm so good at while trying to work with Canon Connect add to the overall ambiance of the image.

Additionally, blush, contouring, filling in the hair, and straightening the braids bring this photo to a new level. Adding additional width to the image helps it more closely follow the rule of thirds, adds depth, and draws the viewer in.

Sourdough

Would it really be complete without sourdough? If you feel the same, check out my Much Kneaded Sourdough Kit for more loaf-ly photos of bread.

There's not much to this image transformation except making the bread look even yummier and the environment a lush green.

Oh, and maybe creating unrealistic beauty standards for bread.
